Leidos Donates $5,000 to NVHS to Support Homeless and At-Risk Veterans in Brevard County
(MELBOURNE, Fla.) – Leidos, a FORTUNE® 500 science and technology leader, recently donated $5,000 to the National Veterans Homeless Support (NVHS). The donation will support NVHS programs that help prevent and eliminate homelessness among veterans living in Central Florida.
The campaign helps the organization keep veterans in Brevard “Warm, Full and Safe” all year round through its outreach program. In addition, the campaign provides housing, food and gifts for homeless veterans and those at risk of homelessness during the holiday season.
Some of the highlights of the Warm Full Safe campaign are:
- Last year, Leidos’ donation helped NVHS to provide gift bags for veterans in its transitional housing, VA transitional housing properties and eight homeless veterans and four dependents who spent Christmas in a motel. Other veterans were helped through outreach with gift bags that included jeans, sneakers, underwear, socks, T-shirts, hoodies, and a $10 fast-food gift card. A total of 260 people — 142 veterans, 62 dependents and 56 children were helped.
- Over the past three years, Leidos has donated $15,000 to NVHS’s Warm Full Safe campaign and holiday event.
- Since its founding in 2008, NVHS has helped to reduce the homeless veteran population by about 90% as of 2023. It also works to keep at-risk veterans from homelessness.
Leidos is committed to supporting veterans and military spouses as they pursue challenging and rewarding careers. The company has received several accolades and awards for hiring veterans and military spouses, including “Best for Vets” by the Military Times, “Best Employers for Veterans” by Forbes, and “Top Veteran Employer” by Military.com.
“We are proud to support NVHS and their mission to end veteran homelessness in Brevard County,” said Eva Thurston, Leidos’ Vice President, Modeling, Simulation and Training Division. “We appreciate their dedication and compassion for our veterans and their families, especially during these challenging times. We hope our donation will make a difference in the lives of those who served our country and deserve our gratitude and respect.”
“Leidos has been a generous and loyal partner of NVHS for the past three years. Their donation helps us to provide essential services and assistance to our veterans and their families, not only during the holidays, but throughout the year. We are grateful for their continued support and commitment to our cause. Together, we can ensure that no veteran is left behind,” said George Taylor, NVHS’ President.
