Ensuring Stability, Security, and Support for Female Veterans
For the women who have served our country, coming home should mean safety, stability, and opportunity. Yet, many female veterans face significant challenges after transitioning from military service, including a higher risk of homelessness, domestic violence, and financial hardship.
Women veterans are one of the fastest-growing populations of homeless veterans, often due to a lack of affordable housing, limited access to support services, and personal safety concerns. Many are also single mothers, survivors of trauma, or struggling with health issues, making stable housing even more critical.
At National Veterans Homeless Support (NVHS), we are committed to helping female veterans in Central Florida find safe, stable housing and the necessary resources to rebuild their lives. We provide support to help women veterans regain their independence and security through housing programs, case management, and emergency assistance.
If you or a female veteran you know struggles with housing insecurity, we are here to help!
The Higher Risk of Homelessness and Housing Instability for Female Veterans
Women in the military often experience unique challenges both during and after their service, which can make the transition to civilian life more difficult. These challenges contribute to higher rates of homelessness and housing instability among female veterans.
Higher Risk of Homelessness
Many female veterans return to civilian life with limited financial resources, difficulty finding stable employment, and a lack of support networks. Without a steady income or affordable housing options, many find themselves on the brink of homelessness.
Survivors of Domestic Violence and Military Sexual Trauma (MST)
Female veterans experience domestic violence and military sexual trauma at disproportionately high rates. These experiences can lead to mental health struggles, financial dependence, and the need to escape unsafe living situations. Many women who leave abusive relationships have nowhere to go, making safe, affordable housing essential to their recovery.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Military Sexual Trauma (MST)
PTSD is more common among female veterans, affecting about 13 out of every 100, or 13%. The emotional and psychological toll of their experiences can make it difficult to maintain steady employment, build supportive relationships, or navigate housing assistance programs. Without proper treatment and support, these challenges increase the risk of homelessness.
Caring for Children While Facing Housing Instability
Many women veterans are single mothers, balancing the challenges of parenting while seeking housing and employment. The fear of losing custody of their children due to homelessness often prevents women from seeking help.
These challenges highlight the urgent need for housing solutions designed specifically for female veterans. NVHS is committed to addressing these issues through targeted programs and support services.
Providing Safe and Stable Housing for Women Veterans
At NVHS, we believe that every veteran deserves a safe place to call home. Our housing program, case management services, and community partnerships provide comprehensive support to female veterans in need.

A Veteran’s Story: How NVHS Helped Jasmine Find Stability
Jasmine, a U.S. Army veteran, found herself on the brink of homelessness while pregnant and caring for her young son. After leaving the military, she struggled to cover her rent and utility bills, and eviction seemed inevitable.
Through NVHS’s housing assistance program, Jasmine received the financial support she needed to stay in her home. With case management and rental assistance, she was able to get back on her feet, find stable employment, and plan for a brighter future for her family.
“Without NVHS, I don’t know what I would have done. They helped me when I had nowhere else to turn.” – Jasmine, U.S. Army Veteran.
Jasmine’s story is one of many—NVHS is here to help more women veterans find safe housing and a path forward.
