Too many veterans face nights without shelter, days without food, and weeks without the basic supplies most of us take for granted. For those living in tents, cars, or barely making ends meet in low-income housing, even something as small as a bottle of water or a clean pair of socks can mean the difference between survival and slipping further into crisis.

That’s why at National Veterans Homeless Support (NVHS), we don’t work alone, and we don’t take community support for granted.

Every meal handed out, every hygiene kit delivered, and every moment of hope offered to a veteran in crisis is made possible by the people who stand behind us.donation to NVHS by home depot merit island

Today, we’re proud to shine a well-deserved spotlight on one of those key partners: the incredible team at Home Depot Merritt Island Store #0234. This group goes far beyond customer service and straight into community heroism.

A Truck Full of Supplies, A Heart Full of Gratitude

This summer, Store #0234 once again demonstrated its dedication to our mission by delivering a truckload of donated goods, including snacks, bottled water, and essential supplies, which directly benefit homeless and low-income veterans across Brevard County.

These items might seem simple on the surface, but to the veterans we serve, many of whom are living outdoors or struggling to keep the lights on, they are life-changing.

Whether it’s a bag of trail mix keeping someone nourished through the night or clean socks that protect tired feet from infection, these donations don’t just help, they restore dignity and deliver hope.

Meet the Team Behind the Giving

Every great mission has champions, and for us, two stand out in a big way: Mircea, Specialty Assistant Store Manager, and Amanda, Pro Supervisor, have been the driving force behind Store #0234’s continuous support for NVHS.

They don’t just collect donations; they go above and beyond to ensure our teams are well-stocked year-round.

Their leadership has helped foster a store culture that values giving back, and it shows.

More Than Just Supplies—They Build Safety and Dignity

Their impact goes well beyond donations. When 75-year-old Katherine T., a disabled, low-income Air Force veteran, came into our office, afraid to walk down her crumbling front stairs, we knew she needed more than a quick fix. She needed safety. She needed dignity.

Thanks to our long-standing partnership with the Merritt Island Home Depot, Katherine got just that.

Mircea, Patty, and their hardworking team didn’t just build her new stairs; they gave her a brand-new porch, complete with sturdy railings, outdoor decorations, and a set of chairs so she could sit outside with pride. They treated her like family, and she’s now able to enter and exit her home safely without fear.

It was more than a construction project. It was a moment of restoration, both for her home and her spirit.

When Businesses Lead with Heart

What makes this partnership so powerful is that it reflects how deeply rooted community support can transform lives.

This isn’t just a corporation writing checks or running ads. This is a team of real people, in our local community, taking real action for veterans who served our country.

At a time when many businesses are stretched thin or focusing inward, Home Depot Merritt Island continues to look outward, asking, “What can we do to help?” And help, they do consistently and without hesitation.

Why This Kind of Support Matters

Homelessness isn’t a simple issue. It takes a community-wide commitment to address this issue. From emergency supplies to transitional housing, every layer of support makes a difference, and donations like this truckload form the foundation of our frontline efforts.

We can’t do what we do alone.

Home Depot’s leadership reminds us that compassion and corporate citizenship can coexist, and when they do, everyone wins.

  • Veterans get what they need to survive and thrive.
  • Staff and volunteers feel supported and energized.
  • The community gets stronger, more unified, and more hopeful.

Join Home Depot: Be Part of the Mission

To our supporters, we offer this challenge: Follow the example of Home Depot Merritt Island. Whether you’re a business owner, community leader, or someone who simply wants to give back, there’s a place for you in the NVHS mission.

You can:

  • Donate in-kind goods, such as snacks, bottled water, socks, or hygiene items.
  • Sponsor one of our annual events, like our Annual Rescuing Veterans Lost in America Gala or our Annual Home Stretch 5K for Homeless Veterans.
  • Host a supply drive at your workplace or church to support those in need.
  • Volunteer for an outreach event or meal distribution.
  • Make an online donation.

Whether it’s a truckload of supplies or attending our next fundraising event, every act of support makes a real difference. When sponsors like Home Depot get involved, through both donations and event participation, they help us reach more veterans and remind them they are never forgotten.

A Final Word of Thanks

To Mircea, Amanda, and the entire team at Home Depot Store #0234, we extend our heartfelt thanks.

Your support has helped keep hundreds of veterans fed, hydrated, and safe. You’ve stood by us through every season, and your generosity continues to shine as a beacon of what true partnership looks like.

We are proud to call you allies and even more proud to call you friends.
