The Roles Volunteers Play at NVHS

Volunteering with NVHS offers a variety of opportunities to contribute based on your interests and availability. Here is a closer look at the main ways volunteers support our mission:

Search and Rescue

One of the most critical roles is joining search and rescue teams. Volunteers help locate veterans experiencing homelessness or crisis in the community. This vital work requires compassion, patience, and teamwork. It helps connect veterans with emergency services, shelter, and ongoing support.

Event Support

Volunteers play an essential role in making our fundraising and awareness events successful. You might help set up venues, register participants, manage information booths, serve refreshments, or assist with clean-up. These events are key to raising funds and community awareness that sustain NVHS programs.

Administrative Assistance

If you prefer behind-the-scenes work, volunteering in the office might be your fit. Administrative volunteers assist with data entry, filing, phone outreach, managing volunteer schedules, and helping prepare materials for programs. These efforts keep NVHS organized and effective.

Direct Service Support

Many volunteers help distribute food, clothing, and supplies directly to veterans in need. Others facilitate workshops, provide transportation, or assist with veterans’ activities and support groups. This direct contact is often the most rewarding, as you see the difference your efforts make firsthand.

No matter your role, every volunteer is part of a team dedicated to helping veterans rebuild their lives.

Flexible Ways to Give Your Time and Talent

We understand that volunteers have different schedules and availability. NVHS offers several time commitment options so you can choose what works best:

Weekly Volunteers

FAQ for Volunteers

If you want a consistent volunteer role, weekly opportunities are available in many program areas. Regular involvement allows you to build relationships and see the long-term impact of your efforts.

Monthly Volunteers

Monthly volunteering might be the best fit if you want to help regularly but cannot commit every week. Many of our events and outreach efforts happen on a monthly basis and benefit from dedicated support.

One-Time Events and Short-Term Projects

For those with limited availability or who want to try volunteering for the first time, one-time events and special projects are a great option. These include helping at a fundraiser, participating in a community outreach day, or assisting with a specific campaign.

Whatever your availability, your help is valuable and appreciated.

Want to make a lasting impact? Volunteer regularly or join us for special events. Either way, your commitment helps build stronger, healthier communities.
