A Gala can be remembered for its dinner, auctions, conversations, and celebration. Those moments bring people together, but they represent only one part of a much greater effort. For National Veterans Homeless Support, the purpose of community participation extends beyond one evening and connects to work that continues throughout the year.

Our mission focuses on helping homeless and at-risk veterans and their families through outreach, homelessness prevention, housing support, and connections to appropriate resources. Community involvement helps provide the support and resources that make these services possible. Since 2008, NVHS has helped reduce veteran homelessness in Brevard County by 90%.

The Gala Is Part of a Larger Mission

The Gala creates an opportunity for our community to come together around veteran homelessness, but the mission does not begin or end with the event. Our programs operate throughout the year to connect veterans with assistance based on their individual circumstances.

That work can include reaching veterans through street outreach, helping prevent homelessness, providing housing support, and connecting veterans with other community resources. Each service addresses a different point in the process, and each depends on sustained organizational capacity.

One of the most important ways Gala support contributes to our mission is by helping sustain the capacity to reach veterans throughout the year. A veteran experiencing homelessness may not encounter our organization during a fundraising event. They may connect with us through direct outreach, a referral, or another community resource.

Meeting Veterans Where They Are

Our Search & Rescue program provides street-level outreach to locate homeless veterans and offer immediate support. The program also allows our team to build relationships with veterans and better understand their circumstances.

For veterans who need more than immediate assistance, housing support can provide an important foundation for addressing additional needs. Our transitional housing program provides stable housing conditions along with case management and structured support.

Stable housing can allow veterans to focus on other areas that may affect their ability to maintain stability. Depending on individual circumstances, transitional housing support may include connections related to employment, VA benefits, life skills, counseling, and other services.

The process does not look identical for every veteran. Our role is to help identify appropriate resources and provide support based on the circumstances of the people we serve.

Gala participation helps sustain the larger organization that provides these services. The event itself is one expression of support, while the programs it helps sustain continue well after the event concludes.

Finding a resource and successfully connecting with it are not always the same thing. Veterans experiencing homelessness may face barriers that make it difficult to determine where to start or which organization to contact.

Our role includes helping veterans understand available options and identifying appropriate next steps. Community support helps sustain the capacity for this work, while partnerships with other organizations strengthen the broader network of resources available to veterans.

What Community Involvement Looks Like After the Gala

The Gala can be a starting point for a deeper relationship with NVHS. Supporters do not need to wait until the next event to participate in our mission.

Community involvement can take many forms, including:
