Fall Support Planning Guide for Donors, Volunteers, and Businesses

Fall is when many community supporters begin thinking about holiday giving, but waiting until November or December can leave valuable opportunities on the table. Veterans facing housing instability, financial hardship, or homelessness need support throughout the year, and our fall calendar gives donors, volunteers, families, and businesses several ways to make an impact before the holidays arrive.

We have built our work around both immediate assistance and homelessness prevention. Since 2008, we have helped reduce veteran homelessness in Brevard County by 90%, while continuing to provide outreach, prevention case management, transitional housing, and other critical support. Planning your fall support early helps us prepare for upcoming needs while giving you more meaningful ways to participate.

Give a monetary or in-kind donation today and help us prepare to support veterans throughout the fall.

Why Fall Is the Right Time to Start Planning

Many people associate charitable giving with the holiday season, but veteran support cannot wait for a particular month. Housing instability, food insecurity, unexpected expenses, and other challenges can affect veterans and their families at any time.

Planning your involvement during the fall creates more opportunities to choose how you want to help. You might participate in an event, organize a workplace effort, volunteer with our team, make a financial contribution, or provide needed goods through an in-kind donation.

Early planning also gives businesses and community groups time to coordinate employees, budgets, promotional efforts, and volunteer schedules. Instead of trying to find a way to help when the holidays are already underway, you can build your support into your fall plans and carry that commitment forward.

Fall Opportunities to Support Veterans

Our fall calendar offers several ways to turn interest into action. You do not have to choose just one. Combining donations, volunteering, event participation, and business support can create a stronger connection to our mission.

Participate in the Home Stretch 5K

The Annual Home Stretch 5K for Brevard’s At-Risk and Homeless Veterans brings runners, families, volunteers, sponsors, and community supporters together to raise awareness and support for veterans.

The 5K is also an opportunity for businesses to become involved through sponsorship and event support. Funds raised through the event help support essential programs such as housing, outreach, emergency assistance, and services that help veterans move toward greater stability.

If you plan to participate, consider registering early, forming a team, inviting coworkers or family members, or talking with your company about sponsorship opportunities.

Volunteer Before the Holiday Rush

Volunteering should not be limited to holiday drives. Our volunteers help strengthen community awareness, support events, build relationships, and extend our ability to serve veterans. Current opportunities include community engagement roles that help with events, awareness efforts, and relationships throughout the community.

Fall is a particularly useful time to identify where your skills and availability fit. Individuals can volunteer on their own, while businesses and community organizations can explore group participation or workplace volunteering.

Consider starting with:

  • Event and 5K volunteer opportunities
  • Community engagement activities
  • Workplace volunteer efforts
  • Fundraising or awareness initiatives
  • In-kind donation drives
  • Opportunities to connect your professional skills with our mission

Giving your time early also helps you build a relationship with our organization before the holiday season gets busy.

Prepare for Winter Support Before the Holidays

Winter support planning should begin before cold-weather and holiday needs become urgent. Veterans experiencing homelessness or housing instability may need access to necessities, food, shelter, clothing, and other resources as seasonal conditions change.

Our programs include street outreach, transitional housing, homelessness prevention, temporary shelter and housing referrals, rent assistance, and crisis response. Seasonal support can complement this year-round work by helping us respond as needs emerge.

Donors can prepare by making a monetary gift or asking our team about appropriate in-kind donations. Businesses can organize collection efforts, coordinate employee giving, or build seasonal support into their corporate plans.

Make your fall support count now. Give a monetary or in-kind donation to help us prepare for veterans who may need assistance this season.

How Businesses Can Build Fall Support Into Their Plans

Businesses have opportunities to support veterans beyond writing a year-end check. Our 2026 Corporate Partnership structure gives businesses a year-round way to support local veterans while receiving ongoing recognition and engagement opportunities.

Annual partnerships are designed for different budgets and levels of involvement, with options ranging from Corporate Partner through Patriot Partner. Businesses can also participate through event alignment, workplace volunteering, workplace giving, matching gifts, and other forms of community support.

Starting a conversation in the fall gives your team time to:

Set a Meaningful Giving Goal

Determine whether your business wants to contribute financially, provide products or supplies, sponsor an opportunity, or combine several forms of support.

Engage Employees

Give employees a clear opportunity to volunteer, participate in the 5K, organize a collection drive, or contribute through workplace giving.

Plan Year-Round Partnership

Businesses that want to make a larger commitment can explore an annual partnership rather than treating veteran support as a single holiday campaign. Our partnership model helps organizations connect their support to local veteran needs throughout the year.

Connecting Veterans to the Benefits They’ve Earned

Why Early Planning Creates Greater Impact

Fall planning does more than make your calendar easier to manage. It helps turn support into sustained participation.

For donors, planning early can make it easier to determine where a contribution fits into your giving plans. For volunteers, it creates more flexibility to find an opportunity that matches your schedule and skills. For businesses, it provides time to coordinate budgets, employees, sponsorships, and community initiatives.

Most importantly, early support helps us plan around the needs of veterans. Our financial transparency practices include tracking veterans served, housing placements, financial assistance, outreach, and other program outcomes. We maintain a Platinum Seal of Transparency, reflecting our commitment to responsible stewardship and measurable impact.

Fall support is therefore not simply preparation for the holidays. It is an opportunity to strengthen the network of people and organizations helping veterans throughout the season and into the year ahead.

Make Your Fall Support Plan Today

You do not need to wait for a holiday campaign to make a difference. Choose one action now and build from there. Register for the Home Stretch 5K, explore a volunteer opportunity, talk with your business about an annual partnership, organize an in-kind collection, or make a donation that helps us respond to veteran needs.

We know that meaningful community support takes planning. When donors, volunteers, and businesses get involved earlier, we have more opportunities to coordinate that support with the needs we see across Brevard County.

Earlier planning creates stronger participation and support throughout the fall. Give a monetary or in-kind donation today and join us in supporting veterans before the holiday season begins.
