Veterans and Healthcare
Veterans and Healthcare Veterans are affected by a unique set of health-related challenges and conditions. As a result of their service, veterans may be at higher risk for musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, mental health issues and PTSD, traumatic brain injury, chemical and noise exposure, and infectious diseases. Researchers who surveyed veterans in the year following their separation from the military found that over half (53%) of veterans reported having chronic physical health problems. Further, lack of adequate mental health care for veterans has resulted in higher rates of suicide [...]
Veterans and Financial Literacy
Veterans and Financial Literacy Financial stability is an essential component of being able to live a secure, happy life. One of the biggest factors that can influence an individual's financial stability is their financial literacy―that is, their ability to manage their finances and make informed financial decisions. However, when it comes to financial literacy, civilians and veterans often have markedly different experiences, and understanding the differences between their situations might provide some key insights on the issue of veteran homelessness. Veteran Finances: Background and Statistics The financial situations of veterans [...]

Veterans and the Economy Between the economic slump caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ever-increasing cost of living in the United States, and the looming threat of inflation, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who hasn't been adversely affected by the economic goings-on of the past few years, or who hasn't reviewed their finances with some degree of worry. And although nearly everyone is feeling the pressure, some people are feeling it more than others. One of the groups that has been particularly hard-hit are veterans, many of whom [...]

Veteran Families: Challenges and Support
Veteran Families: Challenges and Support Behind every veteran is a family and support system who make their sacrifice possible. These people are the unsung heroes of the military community. They're the spouses who continue to raise children and maintain households while service members are away, or the parents and siblings who endure uncertainty and distance from their loved one during deployments. Just as veterans experience a unique set of challenges when they leave the military, so do veteran families. For example: During deployment, military families are often forced to adjust [...]
Veterans and Public Policy
Veterans and Public Policy Reducing homelessness among veterans is a huge undertaking. While the efforts of individuals and grassroots organizations are essential to this cause, they're not enough. To achieve lasting change will require that public policies affecting veterans are also taken into consideration, and that legislation, funding decisions, and infrastructure prioritize quality of life for former service members. The list of policies that affect veterans is long, complex, and constantly in flux. Moreover, many state- and local-level policies vary depending on where you live. While it's always a good [...]

It's normal to have upsetting memories, feel on edge, or have trouble sleeping after this type of event. If symptoms last more than a few months, it may be PTSD.
